Patrick Thomas Houlehan McGuire, age 66, passed away on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at 4:40 p.m. at his Gull Lake home, surrounded by his wife and family. He had fought a courageous battle against cancer with unsurpassed dignity and honor. He was born on July 4,1944, to Mary Buchanen and Patrick Houlehan, who had been killed in Normandy, three weeks prior to Pat’s birth.

Pat is survived by his loving wife Caryl (Tretter); son Scott McGuire, his wife Annie and their children Maddie, Bridget and Ryan. He lovingly took under his wings and was a father to Scott Rice and Jamie Morris and his wife Laura and their children Dakota and Shelby. He is also survived by his brothers Tim (Dianne), Mike (Judy) and Sean (Barbara); his sisters Mary (Art) and Maureen (Roy); his kinship partner Mitchell Gerard; and best friend Mike Cooney. Also survived by Caryl’s sisters Cleo (Ray), Betty, Janet (Tom) and Gloria; brothers Marvin (Ellen), Ted, Donnie (Arvilla); and his buddy Daryl (RoseAnn). Pat leaves behind countless other family and friends from all corners of the world.  

Pat was born in Spokane and moved to St. Paul as a youngster. He graduated from Hill High School and St. Thomas University. He had successful careers at Pillsbury and Norwest Bank as an auditor and traveled the world, both for business and pleasure. His many hobbies included scuba diving, enjoying fires by the lake and spending as much time as he could with his friends and family. He and Caryl were married in Hawaii and spent three months of every winter in Maui.  

Visitation will be at Nelson-Doran Funeral Chapel, 202 Eighth Ave. N.E., Brainerd, on Friday Jan. 14th from 4 to 8 p.m. with prayer service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Francis Catholic Church at Ninth and Juniper, Brainerd at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15th, with visitation one hour before at the church. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials preferred to Kinship Partners of Brainerd.
