U.S. judge restores Endangered Species Act protections to Great Lakes gray wolves

Edward C. Rolfson, age 88, of Brainerd, formerly of Mankato, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Woodland Hills Funeral Chapel in Mankato. Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and will continue one hour before services at the chapel.

Edward was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Mankato to Edward and Cathrine (Witt) Rolfson. He was a W.W. II, U.S. Army veteran. Edward married Patsy Arndt March 21, 1956, in Webster City, Iowa. He was a heavy equipment operator for Lundin Construction for many years. Edward was a member of the American Legion Post No. 11, V.F.W. Post 1647, the 49er’s and the Mankato Cycle Club. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, motorcycling, racing cars and especially visiting and time spent with his family and being with his dog, Toby.

Edward is survived by his wife, Patsy; sons, Edward Jr., of Brainerd, Mark, of Mankato, Greg, of Brainerd, and Doug, also of Brainerd; daughters, Barbara (David) Sontag, of Brainerd, and Laurie (Scott) Schubbe, of Mankato; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and twin sister, Eleanor.
