UPDATE: Final Minnesota legislative bills may be passed in middle of the night

Helen T. Stroot

Helen Theresa (Geiser) Stroot was born on March 1, 1919, to Joseph and Anna (Vorderbruggen) Geiser in Bluffton, Minn.

Helen Geiser and Leo August Stroot were united in marriage on Oct. 4, 1936, at St. John the Baptist Church in Bluffton. She was a loving wife, mother and busy homemaker. She showed her love to her grandchildren with her “Gramma cake” and chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed gardening, fish fries at the lake and family gatherings. She also loved watching the birds, playing cards and dice games. Helen belonged to Christian Mothers, the VFW Auxiliary and the Catholic Aid Association.

Helen passed away on March 5, 2011, at the age of 92, at Essentia Health’s St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, on Aug. 24, 1992; her parents, Joseph and Anna; sons, Leo and David; daughter, Karen; brothers, Ben and Ray Geiser; sister, Hildegard Haman; and grandsons, Jonathan Harthun and Jacob Stroot.

Helen is survived by sons, Jim (Pat) Stroot, of Miltona, Bill (Aggie) Stroot, of Motley, and Fred (Diane) Stroot, of New York Mills; daughters, Carol (Norb) Husby, of Park Rapids, Mary (Dave) Keppers, of Motley, Ellen (Ron) Cherne, of Brainerd, Judeen (Doug) Harthun and Adele (Mark) Lausten, both of New York Mills; 39 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Esther (Don) Hatlestad; sisters-in-law, Mary Stroot and Evelyn (Al) Koplin; and brother-in-law, Jack (Eileen) Regan.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held on March 8, 2011, at St. John The Baptist Church in Bluffton with Father Donald Wagner as celebrant. Honorary pallbearers were Stacie Garver and Lacey Schik. Active pallbearers were Alan Husby, Marc Stroot, Chad Keppers, Aaron Stroot, Abe Harthun and Malcolm Stroot. Burial was in St. John the Baptist Church Cemetery in Bluffton.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena.
