Blanche Lund

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Blanche was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Ironton, Minn., the second child to William and Johanna (Sodahl) Bedard. She passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2011, in La Crosse, Wis., where she had lived with her daughter, Sherry George and family for the past 2-1/2 years. Blanche graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School in1938 and also the Crosby-Ironton Jr. College, where she took business courses for two years. During her younger years, Blanche worked in many of the local C-I businesses including Lundblom’s Drug Store, the Ironton Ranger and Smith’s Variety Store. During the war years from 1942 to 1944, Blanche was employed as a secretary at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.  In 1944, she married LaValle Lund of Ironton and they both returned to Washington, D.C., where LaValle remained in the Navy until his discharge in 1945.  In 1948, they built their home in Ironton where they lived for 60 years. Blanche and LaValle owned and operated Lund Lumber Company for many years and she later worked at the Cuyuna Range Hospital for 18 years

Blanche was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She also was a member of the Ironton Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherry (Lou) George, of Fountain City, Wis.; grandchildren, Brandy Lund, of Denver, Colo., and Jamie Lund, Kelsey Dichraff and Garrison Dichraff, all of La Crosse, Wis.; brother, Earl (Evelyn) Bedard, of Ironton; sisters, Jean (Robert) Melenich, of Baxter, Minn., and Joan (Wayne) Gutzman, of Brainerd, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, LaValle Lund on June 2, 2008; son, Gary Lund; parents, William and Johanna Bedard; and brother, Fred Bedard.  

A private graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse on Monday, April 4, 2011, with Pastor Corey Sateren of Bethany Evangelical Free Church officiating. There will be no visitation. For those wishing to remember Blanche, memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Crosby, Minn. Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, (Woodruff Chapel), La Crosse, is assisting the family with arrangements.
