Evelyn Dechaine Ramsdell, age 101 years, 9 months old, a resident of Brainerd, passed away May 20, 2011, at Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin, Minn.

Evelyn was born Aug. 16, 1909, to Paul and Sophronie (Heon) Dechaine in Crow Wing Township, Crow Wing County on her grandparents, Antoine and Louise Dechaine’s farm. Evelyn attended grade school at District 14 Crow Wing County. She graduated from Brainerd High School in 1928 and St. Cloud Teacher’s College in 1932.

Survivors are her son, Lee (Elizabeth), Isabella, Minn.; daughter, Cheryl (Jerome) Jurek, McGregor, Minn.; grandsons, Jon (Brenda) Jurek, Patrick (Teri Jo) Ramsdell, Larry (Jennifer) Ramsdell; granddaughter, Ann (John) Jurek Altmann; great-grandsons, Kyle Keeler, Cody, Sawyer and Boone Ramsdell; great-granddaughters, Brittany (Dan) Illescas, Ashley and Sarah Altmann, Aurora and Airen Ramsdell; sisters, Elizabeth Wienke and Helen Richmond and sister-in-law, Betty Dechaine. She is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews.

Her husband of 60 years, Aaron Ramsdell, died in 1994. Also proceeding her in death were infant boy and girl babies; a granddaughter, Elizabeth (Jurek) Keeler; brothers, Leo and Harvey Dechaine; and a sister, Eva Seedorf.

Evelyn served as School District 31 treasurer for 24 years and as treasurer of Nokay Lake Township for 23 years.

She was a member of St. Francis Church, Eagles Auxiliary and St. Cloud State University Alumni Association.

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Evelyn’s long life will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Steve Laflamme officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Nokay Lake Township. Visitation will be held the hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Because of her interest in teaching and education, memorials are preferred to Brainerd Public Library.
