Delilah M. Marxen
Delilah Mae (Lanning) Marxen, 86, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at Bethany Good Samaritan Care Center in Brainerd.
Delilah was born May 26, 1925, in Sacred Heart, Minn., to Elvin and Olina (Fagerly) Lanning. She was raised on the family farm north of Granite Falls, Minn.
She began her education in a country school and went on to graduate from Granite Falls High School with the class of 1944. Delilah’s loves were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her bird “Buddy”, ice cream, sewing, crafting and volunteering at the Senior Citizens and VFW Auxiliary. She bowled for 40 years bringing her to win the Minnesota Senior bowling tournament and went on to place seventh in the nation at Reno, Nev., at the age of 80. She was known for the 100s of “trauma bears” she sewed and donated to the needy children in the Brainerd area.
Delilah is survived by her children Bob (Clio) Mulenburg of Brainerd, Irene (Terry) Holen of Montevideo, Doug (Cyndy) Mulenburg of Darwin, Wayne (Sharon) Mulenburg of Mankato, Mike Mulenburg of Mankato; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; stepchildren; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Sandy, Berdelle and Elmer; sisters, Ruth and Deloris; her husbands Roland Shetterly, John Marxen and her former husband Robert Mulenburg; granddaughter Tabitha; and daughter-in-law Julie. She will be missed by family and friends. Blessed be her memory.
Funeral services for Delilah will be 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato, Minn. Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, from 2-4 p.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd.
