Iva Cathryn “Ike” Modine age 86 died on August 18, 2011, at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby.  She was born on June 2, 1925, in Tabor, S.D., to Charles and Nellie (Stevenson) Vellek. She married Dale William Modine on January 24, 1947, in Colome, S.D. Ike was employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Eagan as a claims examiner for 20 years.

After retiring in 1991 they moved to Deerwood. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iron Hub and the Ladies Aid and its past president, a lifetime member and past president of  both the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Auxiliary and the Marine Corps League.

Survivors include her husband Dale; one son William Modine of Chokio; two daughters Sandra (Jim) Mishler of Eagan and Janet Sanderson of Monticello; one sister Amo Bishop of Shawano, Wis.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. 

Preceding her in death are her parents and one brother John Vellek.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2011, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iron Hub. Burial will be at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.  Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
