Raymond Espersen, age 84, resident of Brainerd, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society-Bethany. He was born Jan. 1, 1927, in St. Paul to Martin and Edith (Falkenberg) Espersen. Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married Vinette Huseth on April 5, 1952, in Gully, Minn. He retired from the Great Northern - Burlington Northern Railroad after 40 years, Ray also did some farming. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the American Legion and was an Assistant Scout Master.
Survivors include son, Thomas (Mary) Espersen; daughter, Lisa Espersen; grandson, Marty (Emily) Espersen; granddaughters, Britt Espersen and Amy (Brad) Guimont; sisters, Betty Geene and Lois (Donald) Alberg; brothers, Howard (Sue) Espersen and Roger (Jeannie) Espersen.
Preceded in death by his wife, Vinette in 2008; and his brother, Bruce.
Services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Mark Skinner officiating. Burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held the hour before service at the church. Military honors by the Brainerd V.F.W. Post 1647 Color Guard.
