BAXTER — Ione Alred, 87, of Baxter, died on Nov. 1, 2011, at Diamond Willow.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at the Brainerd VFW on Monday, Nov. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. A private family burial, with Pastor Rory Swenson officiating, will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Ione Margaret Alred was born to George and Lois (Murphy) Ziemer on April 27, 1924, in Ceylon, Minn. She grew up in Wykoff, Minn. While attending Winona State College, Ione enlisted in the Navy, servicing as a Wave, during WW II.

After three days of courtship, she was united in marriage to Harold Alred on March 20, 1945, in Norman, Okla. Ione enjoyed bridge club, gardening, antiquing, flea markets and fishing.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harold; sons, Michael (Diane) Alred, of Baldwin, Wis., and Bryan (Dorothy) Alred, of Pineville, W.V.; sister, Barbara (Wendell) Stender, of Wykoff, Minn.; beloved special friends, Roger and Betsy Johnson, of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Ione was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert; and daughter, Barbara Jo.
