U.S. judge restores Endangered Species Act protections to Great Lakes gray wolves

Johnny Ray Peck, 88, passed away at Good Samaritan Bethany on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011. Johnny was born on April 26, 1923, in Huron, S.D., to Charley and Lucy (Schamp) Peck.

Johnny was a heavy equipment operator in the Brainerd area. Some of his major projects were building the Pine Beach West and Sylvan Golf Courses. He also spent time as a truck driver and working at Madden’s. Johnny was very active in the Civil Conservation Corps stationed at East Lake. Johnny was married to Dorothy Ellen Watson. After she passed away he married Agnes Olds.

Johnny will be deeply missed by his wife, Agnes, of Nisswa, children, Garry (Janet), of Nisswa, Terry (Patty), of Wellston, Ohio, Belva (Dana) Feltus, of Nisswa, and Gaylene O’Brien, of Grand Rapids; stepchildren, Mark (Geri) East, of Asheville, N.C., Kathy (Randy) Lee, of Pillager, Wanda (Doug) Allen, of Pillager, and Matthew (Jasmine) East, of Greenville, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded the death by his parents; first wife, Dorothy; brothers, Wesley, Lesley and Henry; sisters, Daisy, Goldy and Della Fay; infant twin siblings, Alpha and Omega; a grandson; and a great-grandson.

A gathering will be held on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home at noon with a memorial service immediately following at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
