Douglas Edward Norstrom

Douglas Edward Norstrom, age 71, resident of Brainerd, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society Bethany.

He was born Aug. 10, 1940, in Braham, Minn., to Arthur and Myrtle (Larson) Norstrom. Douglas grew up and attended school in Mora, Minn., graduating high school in 1958. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He attended Cerritos Jr. College in California and Brown Institute in Minneapolis.

Douglas married Diane Stenberg on Aug. 10, 1968. He held a variety of jobs during his working years, ending with bingo manager at Grand Casino. He was a member of Park United Methodist Church, American Legion and the VFW, the North Countrymen Barbershop chorus until they dissolved and the Sons of Norway.

Survivors include: wife, Diane; three sons, Eric (Sue) of Brainerd, Luke and special friend (Tracy) of Minnetonka and Kirk of Brainerd; three step grandchildren, Amber (Adam), Megan (Joe) and Daniel (Brittney); five step great-grandchildren; one sister Ebba Norstrom, Ogilvie Minn.; one sister-in-law, Irene Norstrom, Cambridge, Minn.; many nieces and nephews and their families.

Preceded in death by: parents, Arthur and Myrtle, two sisters Ruth and husband Merle Nelson, Betty and ex-husband Harm Bartholomaus, brother Donald.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Park United Methodist Church with Pastor Rory Swenson officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Military honors by the Brainerd American Legion Post 255.
