Richard B. Jensen
Richard Benjamin Jensen, age 89, of Brainerd, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012, at Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, surrounded by his loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 1 p.m. Jan. 7, 2012, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd. The visitation will be on hour prior to the mass at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.
He was born May 28, 1922, in Sauk Centre, to the late Gunder and Anna (Keppers) Jensen. The family moved to Brainerd in 1927, where Richard attended school, graduating in 1941. On Aug. 30, 1943, Richard was united in marriage to Irene Greenwalt at St. Francis Catholic Church. Richard worked for Johnson Cigar and Candy Co., the Railroad and Brainerd Office Supply before opening his own business, D & D Business Machines in 1960, along with his partner, Darrell Powers.
Richard was a lifelong member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the St. Francis Church Choir, and the North County Barbershoppers, which he helped to found.
Richard was a quiet, kind and gentle man. His wife, children and grandchildren were a very important part of his life.
Richard is survived by his wife of 68 years, Irene; his daughter, Rosemary (Mike) Franzen, of Baxter; his son, Tim (Shellie) Jensen, of Gatzke, Minn.; his grandsons, Michael, David and Benjamin Franzen; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Irene Ylinen, of Duluth, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arnold, Franklin, Edward and Walter; sister, Evelyn Lynch; and grandson, Shawn Franzen.
