Another day, another missed Minnesota legislative deadline

Thomas ‘Tommy’ Thompson

AITKIN — Thomas “Tommy” Thompson, age 63, of Aitkin, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.

Tommy was born Jan. 31, 1948, at Aitkin, Minn., the son of Harry and Gladys (Berg) Thompson. He grew up and attended schools in Aitkin graduating from the Aitkin High School in 1966. He then attended college in Brainerd for 1 year and then Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis from where he graduated with a degree in Auto Body Technology. He then worked for Aitkin Auto Body for several years. He then worked for Aitkin Iron Works as a machinist for 20 years. He then went to work at Potlatch in Brainerd until they closed. He then worked for the Tire Barn in Aitkin and also drove school bus for the Aitkin School system for the past eight years. He truly loved driving bus and the kids. He married Jeanie Johnson on Sept. 2, 1971, in Aitkin. They have made their home in Aitkin. He was a member of the Aitkin United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge, the Minnesota Street Rod Association, founding member of the Northern Tin Street Rod Association in Brainerd. He enjoyed building Street Rods, motorcycles and deer hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Thompson, of Aitkin; three daughters, Caidy Thompson, of Minneapolis, Glenda (Ben) Thompson, of Seattle, Holly (Eric) Eisenbraun, of Aitkin, and Jeff (Shanon) Thompson, of Crosby, Minn..; three grandchildren, Kegan Rivers, Vera Eisenbraun and Violet Eisenbraun; one sister, Benita (Dan) Grunenwald, of Canon Falls, Minn.; three brothers, Kenneth (Nancy) Thompson, of Puyallup, Wash., Harry (Kathleen) Thompson, of Maple Grove, Minn., Greg Thompson, of Aitkin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and nephew, Nate Robinson.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the Aitkin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judith Clark officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
