Vernon A. LeDoux, age 86, resident of Brainerd, formerly of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, in his residence surrounded by his children. He was born in Brainerd March 24, 1925, to Edward and Grace (Sutton) LeDoux. He married Jean Hollingsworth Dec. 9, 1946. Vernon proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was disabled during his service. He received the American Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Ribbon and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Silver Star. He had been an active member of the VFW in Duluth. He had been employed by Duluth School District No. 709 until his retirement in 1987.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, telling jokes and spending time with friends and family. Vernon was active at the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center in Brainerd.

Surviving are his children, Loni (Jean) LeDoux and LeAnn (Dan) Bergman; five grandchildren, Anita (Bill) Strassberg, Brad LeDoux, Jerry Altonen, Jon Altonen and Anthony Bergman; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Vera Woods, Hazel Peterson, Pat (Dorothy) LeDoux and Esther Hawbrick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; his children, Jerry and Jody Joy LeDoux; and eight brothers; and three sisters.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday with funeral service at noon Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with Pastor Bob Twiton officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Duluth Honor Guard will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Oneota Cemetery Chapel in Duluth.
