Irene B. Fisher
Irene Bernice Fisher passed away on Feb. 2, 2012, in Brainerd, Minn., at the age of 90. Irene was born on Sept. 10, 1921, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Almar and Jessie Fisher.
Irene attended elementary school in Iowa and Minnesota. She was a 1939 graduate of Backus High School. She attended Pine River Normal Training and earned a certificate to teach in rural schools. She attended Bemidji and St. Cloud Universities and taught in Cass and Crow Wing County schools. Irene retired in 1983 after 43 years of teaching, 29 of which were in the Brainerd Schools.
Irene was a member of Park United Methodist Church, UMW and Naomi Circle, charter member of Backus American Legion Auxiliary 368, Brainerd Area Retired Educators, ADK (Alpha Delta Kappa) Sorority for Teachers, Historical Museum, St. Joseph’s Medical Center Auxiliary, Bethany Auxiliary, the Paul Bunyan Nature Learning Center and a life member of MEA (Minnesota Education Association) and NEA (National Education Association). She volunteered at Home Care & Hospice and Crow Wing County Health Dept.
Irene is survived by one sister, Rosemary Hanson, of Walker; and many generations of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Viola; and brothers, Arden, Harley, Ivan, Raymond, Oscar and Harold.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Park United Methodist Church in Brainerd with visitation one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home.
