Helen G. Aga
Helen Grace Aga, 90, of Brainerd, formerly of Garrison, passed away peacefully on Feb. 8, 2012, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. She was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Thief River Falls to Hilmer and Lydia (Kolstad) Aga.
Helen graduated from Minneapolis Business College and worked as a secretary for many years for MGM and other film distributors, commuting downtown by bus. She took voice lessons at MacPhail School of Music which helped her become an accomplished soloist. She inspired many with her solos during church services, weddings, funerals and even sang on the radio while living in Waseca. Helen was an active member at Zion Lutheran Church and was a Sunday school teacher to many and served as elementary SS director. Helen was helpful to her parents and lovingly cared for her mother Lydia for 10 years until her death. She was a wonderful aunt to many nephews and nieces and their children. After retirement Helen moved to Garrison and lived in her beloved “Songbird Forest.” The family had many special events at Songbird Forest including tapping trees to make maple syrup. She was an active member of Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church and kept up with her Bible study even when her sight was failing.
Helen loved to sew, cook, garden, entertain, do volunteer work for church and especially loved being with family. She never complained and always had a happy sunshine spirit, she loved life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilmer and Lydia Aga; a niece, Charlene Packer; and great-nephews Matthew Trosvig and Noah Packer.
Helen is survived by sisters, Ruth (Roy) Trosvig, of Crystal, Doris Packer, of Waseca; special brother-in-law, Roy Trosvig; close cousin, Jake Aga; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, 10583 U.S. Hwy. 169, P.O. Box 155, Garrison, MN 56450. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at church.
Private burial in Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
