Geraldean O’Hotto

Geraldean “Geri” Arvilla (Rahto) O’Hotto, died on Feb. 9, 2012, at Abbott Northwestern Hospitals in Minneapolis. She was 77 years old.

Geri was born on June 28, 1934, at home, to Gerald and Merle (Tomberlin) Liebold. On July 18, 1953, she married John W. Rahto. They lived near Brewster until 1956 when they moved to a farm near Pennock, Minn. In 1968, they moved to a farm east of Brainerd, where they lived until 2000 and then they moved to Littlefork, Minn. to retire.

John died in July of 2001. Geri continued to live near Littlefork where she worked as a waitress. She met Ervin O’Hotto while working at the café; they were married in April of 2002. They moved to Brainerd in October 2004. Ervin passed away in June of 2005.

Geri served three years on the Lands & Forestry Advisory Commission and nine years as a Supervisor on the Nokay Lake Town Board. She was well known for her cooking, helping people and her hard work.

Survivors include: her four daughters Judith (Gerald) Thorson of Glendo, Wyo.; Jacqueline (Michael) Wing and Margaret (Wayne) Hillman of Brainerd; and Teresa (Chuck) Medecke of Little Fork; her two sons John (Rachael) and Thomas (Melissa), both of Brainerd; two stepsons, Fred and Ron O’Hotto; her brother Merle Liebold of Washington state; her sister Bonnie and sister-in-law Sue Liebold of Brainerd; brother-in-law James (Sylvia) Rahto and sister-in-law Mary Rahto; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her constant companion, her dog, Trudy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John Rahto and Ervin O’Hotto; two infant sons; two sisters and one brother.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Nokay Lake Township. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and will continue the hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
