U.S. judge restores Endangered Species Act protections to Great Lakes gray wolves

LeRoy E. Pelarski, age 75 of Garrison died Feb. 16, 2012 at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

LeRoy was born Jan. 11, 1937 in Little Falls, Minn., the son of Edward and Ida (Olsen) Pelarski Sr. He grew up and attended schools in Onamia. He then served in the U.S. Navy. Upon his discharge he returned to the Pine Center/Garrison area and worked as a machinist for the Scorpion Plant and then for Cuyuna Engines. He was a member of the Garrison VFW and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by son and daughter in law: Harlon and Diane Pelarski of Aitkin; 3 grandchildren: Luke, Kate and John Pelarski; brothers and sisters: Carol (Jack) Gravel of Santa Fe, N. M., Burton Pelarski of East Berenstadt, Ky., Edward (Marge) Pelarski Jr., of Garrison; Wayne (Peggy) Pelarski of Spring Lake Park, Minn.; Gordy (Dorene) Pelarski of Outing, Minn.; Patty (Jim) Wesseling of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 son, Scott.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 24, 2012 at 3 p.m. from the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin with Deacon William Stein officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Aitkin VFW and American Legion Posts.

The Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
