Marjorie P. Olson Teig


Marjorie Pearl Olson Teig died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at her home in Brainerd, Minn., surrounded by her family. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd, Minn., with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at Vaale Cemetery.


Marjorie was born April 30, 1921, in rural Randall, Iowa, to Mathias Bendic and Pearl Rosamond (Johnson) Olson. She attended school in Randall until she moved to Minnesota and graduated from Huntley High School. She married Luther Urben Teig (her husband of 63 years) July 25, 1941, and to this union four children were born, Janice Marlene, Linda, Larry and Joe. Marjorie was a homemaker, a farm wife, and lastly, a psych-tech at Brainerd State Hospital. She loved working with the residents and formed lasting friendships with her co-workers. Marjorie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Brainerd, Sons of Norway Lodge, and a charter member of Sweet Adelines. She loved her family and friends, and welcomed everyone to her table for a cup of coffee. In later years, she enjoyed the care of the Home Instead staff. She was always happy with the visits from her “girls.”

Marjorie is survived by her children, Linda Schuster, Brainerd, Larry (Margaret), Brainerd, and Joe (Catherine) Jackson, Wyo.; grandchildren, Lori Adams Clinton (Jack Karn), Bret (Noelle) Adams, Tim (Jessica) Teig, Sara Teig, Hunter Teig and Hannah Teig; stepgrandchildren Lorie Jo (Marv) Fangman, Mark Schuster, Terry Schuster, Dan (Bridgette) Schuster; great-grandchildren, Damien and Izaac Teig, Barry Adams; stepgreat-grandchildren, Abi Fangman, Cali Fangman, Nicole Schuster, Henry and Oliver Schuster, and stepgreat-great-grandchild, Gage Hoppenworth; siblings, Kenneth (Harriet) Olson, Sherman (Marilyn) Olson, Martha Winslow, Ruth Adams, Dorothy Benjamin, Beverly (Wayne) Schultz; brother-in-law, Ray (Mary) Teig; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Olson and Kitty Olson; and a host of special nieces and nephews, especially niece, Donnalee Aspholm and special friends Roy Hauer, Debbie Herman and Margaret Brauns. Their care and attention were a blessing to Marjorie.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and uncle/stepfather, Pete Olson; daughter, Janice Marlene; husband, Luther; siblings, Jeanette Rice, Lucille Sweet, Alfred Olson, Amos Olson, Mildred Perssig, Pauline Johnson, and John Olson; in-laws, Sylvia and Earl Heller, Ruby Olson, Mervin and Carrie Teig, Ferddie Adams, Jack Winslow and Carol Olson.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to Home Health Partnership Hospice, Crosby. The special care given by Carrie Nelson, Carol Magness and Kim Oleson was greatly appreciated.
