SALCHA, Alaska — Nevan “Nemo” E. Nelson, 52, of Salcha, passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at his residence.
Nemo was born to Richard Nelson and Ardyce (Nelson) Stephan in Oxnard, Calif., on Sept. 23, 1959. As a child he moved around the “lower 48” being able to see many places before graduating high school and enlisting in the Air Force in 1977. While in the Air Force Nemo made many lifelong friends before settling in Alaska. Nemo was then employed by the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 2008. He will be remembered by his giving nature and willingness to do anything for his family and friends. He spent many hours volunteering, always being available for projects. Nemo had a true passion for the outdoors, you could always find him hunting, fishing, or going on “drives” with the family. Being available to housesit or a game night with friends was never an inconvenience for him. He also enjoyed spending time at the “Fred Blixt” cabin with friends, a large pot of ptarmigan chili and a deck of cards.
Nemo was preceded in death by his father, Richard Nelson; stepfather, Forrest Stephan; and two brothers, Mark and Allen Nelson.
His survived by his loving family: son, Richard Nelson, of Salcha, Alaska, Erika Nelson, of San Antonio; mother, Ardyce Stephan; and two brothers, Michael Nelson and Phillip Stephan, all of Minnesota.
A celebration of life will be held on March 4, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at the Salcha Senior Center, Salcha, Alaska.
