AITKIN — Lorraine W. Carlson, age 88, of Aitkin, died Thursday, March 1, 2012, at the Aicota Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 8, 1923, in Aitkin, Minn., the daughter of William and Sarah (Hale) Lafferty. She grew up and attended schools in Aitkin graduating from the Aitkin High School. She then moved to Minneapolis and worked as a cook at a nursing home. She married Carl William “Bill” Carlson on Nov. 18, 1942, in Aitkin. They lived in Aitkin until 1952 when they moved to Minneapolis and Lorraine worked for the Minneapolis Public Schools as a cook at Lincoln Junior High. They moved back to Aitkin in 1973 and Lorraine worked for the Aitkin Community Hospital in the laundry division for almost 30 years. She was a member of the Pine Lake Methodist Chapel. She enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins, and she dearly loved her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by children and spouses, Brad and Elaine Carlson, of Aitkin, Brian and Julie Carlson, of Aitkin, Sharon and Wally Vine, of Milwaukee, Wis., Linda and Mark Mehrman, of Plymouth, Minn., Janet and Steve Anthes, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Lori and Keith Bubalo, of Brainerd; daughter-in-law, Sharon Carlson, of Cedar, Minn.; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lola (Don) McClintock, of Poulsbo, Wash., and Joanne (Dave) Bakken, of Aitkin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill in 2004; two sons, Richard and William; and two sisters, Lois and Alice.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the Glory Baptist Church near Aitkin with Pastor Steve Anthes officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. services on Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Bennettville Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
