GRANT — Cheryl Jean Aykens, age 65, of Grant, Minn., and Hot Springs Village, Ark.

A loving, kind, devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother and friend was called to heaven after a hard fought fight against AML. Cheryl died peacefully at home on March 12, 2012, at 9:30 p.m. surrounded by loved ones. Her infectious laugh and wonderfully witty sense of humor and positive outlook on life made her a joy to be around. Cheryl had many lifelong friends and made a new friend pretty much everyday. Cheryl enjoyed telling and writing stories, was an animal lover, talented artist and often sent handmade cards to friends and family. She enjoyed life to the fullest and was truly one of a kind and made everyone feel so special. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Richard Aykens; and their six children and their spouses, Pam and Tom Kerber, Beth and Joe Simms, Leah and Tom Sworm, Jenny and Peter Aykens, Britta and Bob Jicks and Jena and Pete Peterson; and 13 grandchildren, Charlie, Anna, Courtney, Abby, Ally, Gus, Lily, Bobby, William, Jack, Mark, Ella and Maddy.)

No services are planned, however Cheryl has requested that her ashes be dispersed sometime during the dates of the Crow Wing County Fair. Immediately following the dispersal family and friends are to gather at the firemen’s bratwurst stand and have a bratwurst and enjoy the fair together in honor and celebration of her life.
