John was employed as a custodial engineer with the Brainerd School District at Lincoln and Garfield elementary schools until his retirement in 1984. After retirement he enjoyed his family, flower gardening, ringing the Christmas bell for the Salvation Army at the Northeast Cub Foods, his cabin at Lake Geneva Christian Center in Alexandria, and all of the ministries and projects he could involve himself in at his church. One of his projects was collecting cans for the children’s missionary projects (BGMC) which he did until a short time ago. His family was most important to him and he looked forward to every visit. He was known by all for his ability to make a rhyming jingle any time and in any situation.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years, Majel; children, Blane (Darlene) Huston, Judi (Bob) Koscak, Tim (Kathy) Johnson, Kevin (Jane) Johnson, and Nancy (Scott) Simenstad; grandchildren, Renee, Ranelle, Rachelle, Eric, Matt, Chad, Travis, Paul, Joe, Kevra, Jed, Vincent and Shonna; great grandchildren, Austin, Taylor, Noah, Brody, Gibson, Pauly, Payton, Katie, Sammy, Vicki, Matty, John, Emma, Grace, Rayah, Bryce, Shilo, Cora, Caylea, Carlea, Gina, Lacey, Tori and Makynlea; great, great granddaughters, Alayna and Lilly.

Funeral services for John will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Heritage Assembly of God Church in Baxter, where he was a member. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the church, and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
