UPDATE: Final Minnesota legislative bills may be passed in middle of the night

Ronald L. Newman

Ronald L. Newman , 62, of Brainerd, died at his home Sunday, May 27, 2012. He was born in Brainerd on Feb. 3, 1950 to Wallace E. and Dorothy ( Frerich) Newman. He entered the US Army in 1969, serving for 23 years until retiring. Ron worked as a cook at the Brainerd State Hospital and was employed as cook supervisor at the Washington State Reformatory. Returning to Brainerd, he cooked at Woodland Good Samaritan Village and also did maintenance work at St. Francis Catholic Church for five years.

Survivors include his wife Carol; his mother Dorothy Newman; children: Dawn (Tammi) Newman, Renee (Bobby) Holmes, Tony Newman, Audra (Lee) Wilson and Delon (Tatianna) Luther; grandchildren: Matthew and Maxwell Vatter, Michelle (Ben), Jacob, Cole and Jorden Holmes, Danielle and Desmond Luther, Jasmine Wilson and Kelsey Hammond; great grandchild, Adylin Luginbill; siblings: Dave (Sandy) Newman, Barb High (Roland Iverson) and Jane (John) Malloy; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by father Wallace Newman, sister Sandy Sibbert, brother Bruce Newman and son Ron Newman, Jr.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and at the church Wednesday the hour before services. Military honors provided by the Nisswa American Legion and the Brainerd VFW Color Guards will follow the service. Burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials are preferred to the Disabled American Veterans.
