Frieda A. Rehwaldt


NISSWA — Frieda Alma Rehwaldt, of Nisswa, joined Edgar and all the saints in heaven on June 18, 2012, at her lake home under hospice care. Frieda was born March 14, 1922, to Gustof and Anna Huse in Malone, Texas.


She married Edgar Rehwaldt in March 1945, and served as a partner in Edgar’s 64-year ministry through sharing the Lord’s good news by teaching Sunday School, Lutheran Parent Teachers League and Ladies Guild. Together, they served parishes in Canada, Iowa and Minnesota including, St. Paul Lutheran of Battle Creek, Iowa, Zion of Fairmont, Minnesota, Immanuel of Lakefield, Minnesota and Mount Calvary of Richfield. There was special satisfaction in serving a new mission church that grew to a full congregation – Trinity Lutheran in Anthon, Iowa. Frieda supported Edgar when he served as vacancy pastor at eight additional churches during his ministry, including Zion Lutheran of Brainerd. Following Edgar’s retirement in 1983, they continued to be active at Zion Lutheran in Brainerd and in the McAllen-Mission, Texas area (during winters). For over 20 years, they led worship services in Pleasant Valley, where they had their winter home. They were also instrumental in starting Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church in Crosslake, Minn.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn Shaver, of McAllen, Texas, Anthony (Judy Kay), of St. Paul, Mo., Sidney (Karen), of Richfield, and Jonathan (Susan), of Burnsville; grandchildren, Erik, Chris, Kelly, Corey, Stacy, Jacob, Joshua, Ed, Michele, and Jackson; and great-grandchildren, Cadison, Brayden, Kailyn, Taryn and Nolan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar in 2009; siblings, Walter, Gus and Amanda; and 12 half-brothers and half-sisters.

Services celebrating her life will be held Friday, June 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Mission of the Cross Lutheran Church, Crosslake. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 21, 2012, from 4-7 p.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Brainerd.
