Arthur Rutz was born Nov. 16, 1919 to Kathryn and William Rutz in Sterling, Colo., the youngest of eight children.

Arthur served seven years in the U.S. Army, including three years overseas. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He settled in Portland, Ore., after discharge.

Arthur met and married Zella L. Svarvari on Dec. 28, 1948. He worked at the post office in Portland from 1948 to 1976. After retirement, they moved to Brainerd. Zella died May 16, 1991. He married Darlene Segler on June 6, 1992.

Arthur was a member of First Lutheran Church, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Zella and second wife, Darlene; and brothers and sisters.

Arthur is survived by son, William (Kathy) Segler of Brainerd; daughters, Judy (Scott) Whirley of Brainerd and Arletta Zilka of Little Falls.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 7 p.m. at Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home with visitation from 5-7 p.m. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
