Daniel C. Vickerman

Daniel C. Vickerman, Sr., age 85, resident of Deerwood, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby. Daniel was born on May 28, 1927, in Lester, Iowa, to Claude and Mary (Brucken) Vickerman. He was united in marriage to Ruby Gave on April 9, 1954 in Hopkins, Minn. Daniel served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers for over 60 years and a life member of the V.F.W.

Dan’s love for Ruby, his wife of 58 years, and of family and friends was endless. Any chance he had to go to a gathering; you could count on him being there, and coaxing his family to go with. Beyond his amazing passion for friends and family, we can’t forget his love of golf, which was extended year ‘round by going to Texas every winter for the last 20 years. It was a direct avenue for adding many more friends to his list of favorite people. His sense of humor was classic. He loved to laugh and to make people laugh along with him through outrageous statements and songs. Dan was an avid sportsman. Whether it was golf, hunting, fishing or any sport he could watch on TV, he would do it.

Survivors include, his wife, Ruby; children, Debra (special friend Stan) Vickerman, Karen (Dan) Hendricks, Virginia Vickerman, Daniel Jr. and (Roberta) Vickerman; his brother, Harold (Vivian) Vickerman; Sister-in law Ruthie (Cal) Vickerman; seven grandchildren, Sean (Becky) Nies, Michelle (Steve) Johnson, Jaime (Adam) Curtis, Fawn Hendricks, Desiree (Michael) Faletti, Dustin Vickerman and Danielle Vickerman; nine great grandchildren, Tira, Sydalee, Taylor, Lincoln, Finley, Andrew, Annelise, Alayna, Adam; along with several nieces and nephews.
