Randolph J. Kjera
Randolph John Kjera passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at home on Lower Sylvan Lake near Pillager after a brief battle with cancer. Randy was born Oct. 26, 1953, in Minneapolis, and adopted at 18 months by Roy and Ida Kjera. He grew up near Lake Harriet and graduated from Southwest in 1971.
Sometimes known as Santa, Buddha, Truckin’, Guru and many other nicknames, Randy had a wonderful sense of humor, a quick smile, and touched everyone he met. He had a love of music, sports, travel and camping and will be missed dearly by all his family and friends.
Randy played hard and worked hard – starting as a paperboy at 12 and finishing at the Brainerd Post Office where he worked for the last 19 years. Many will remember him by his long white hair, full beard and perennial shorts.
Randy is survived by his wife, Lois; daughters, Sonja (of Brainerd) and Trina (of Duluth), and son, Aron (Father Timothy of Pennsylvania); stepdaughter, Lael Verrips; and stepson, Jesse Verrips (both in Idaho); grandchildren, Silas, Calvin, Richard, Laney, Henry and Thomas; his sister, Janet (Ray) Sterling, of Minneapolis; nieces, Zoey, Juliet and Erika; and nephew, Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles.
A memorial picnic will be held at Buffalo Hills Lions Park, Brainerd, Minn., on Aug. 12 from noon until 3 p.m.
Arrangements are with Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd, Minn.
