Jeanne Endres

Jeanne M. Christenson Endres

Jeanne Marie Christenson Endres was blessed with a loving family, as she gracefully left her earthly world, to enjoy resting in the arms of her heavenly Father on July 22, 2012.

The daughter of Art and Grace Christenson, she was born May 5, 1929, and grew up in Maynard, Minn. Following high school graduation, Jeanne attended St. Cloud’s School of Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse. Her nursing career began at Gillette’s Children’s Hospital, in the children’s polio unit, where she was referred to as ‘Miss Chris.’ She then worked in Glencoe, Minn., followed by employment at Faribault State Hospital, where she met co-worker Dick Endres.

Jeanne married Dick Endres in Clara City, Minn., in 1954. They began their family in Faribault, then transferred to Brainerd, Minn., in 1960. In addition to raising eight children, Jeanne was a foster mother to several dozen children. While her children attended St. Francis School, she was active on the St. Francis School Board and a Cub Scout Den Mother.

Jeanne was a devout Catholic. She enjoyed attending daily Mass, her guild group, her prayer group, and spending time at the Adoration Chapel. She was active with the prayer-line and helped keep

flowers fresh at the altar of St. Francis Church. She also owned and operated a Catholic book store, Hosanna House, and for years enjoyed her friends in her birthday club.

Jeanne was influential in the founding of the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen, and started the local chapters of Birthright and Natural Family Planning in the Brainerd lakes area.

Jeanne is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Dick Endres; daughters, Debbie, Brainerd, Minn., Kyung, Washington, D.C.; sons, Rick, Tim and Mike (Dawn), Brainerd, Minn., Patrick (Darlene), Champlin, Minn., and Jake (Laura), West St. Paul, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; brothers, Jim (Karen) Christenson, Willmar, Minn., Jack (Jackie) Christenson, Malmo, Minn.; and brother-in-law, Bob Donner, Clara City, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Grace Christenson; sister, Gladys Ann Donner; and daughter, Anna Christine.

Her family appreciates the love, prayers and support she received during her illness and is grateful for the attentive care she received from her hospice nurse, Kelly Hammerbeck, with Good Samaritan.

They also acknowledge the wonderful home care staff at Good Neighbor, who have been, and continue to be, a support to their family.
