STAPLES — The Mass of Christian Burial for Gordon L. Thompson of Staples will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Father Joseph Korf as celebrant. Gordon passed away on Aug. 21, 2012, at the age of 59, at the National Brain Aneurysm Center in St. Paul.

Gordon L. Thompson was born on Dec. 7, 1952, to George and Evelyn (Pollock) Thompson in Alexandria. He was united in marriage with Janelle Reese at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Moran Township, on June 15, 1973. They made their home in Staples for over 45 years where Gordy worked as a locomotive engineer for BNSF Railway. He had a special passion for wrestling that included a high school state championship which continued with his sons and grandsons. He thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors and spent time hunting, fishing, farming and riding his four-wheeler. He especially loved to build and sit around a bonfire with family and friends. Gordy was a caring and giving person; he continued that in death through the gift of organ and tissue donation.

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents, George and Evelyn; foster parents, Ralph and Agnes Rychner; and father-in-law, Greg Reese Sr. He is survived by his loving wife, Janelle; children, Gordy (Kelly), of Brainerd, Reggy (Amy) and Jeff (Melanie), both of Staples, and Angie (Eric) Kramer, of Pillager; 15 grandchildren; and siblings Jerry (Gloria), of Zimmerman, Gary (Karen), of Manawa, Wis., LeRoy, of Columbia Heights, Bob (Donna), of Osakis, Marion (Andy) Johnson, of Blaine, Julie Thompson, of Columbia Heights, and Joyce (Scott) Svetlin, of Ramsey; along with a host of friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Jerry Thompson, Gary Thompson, LeRoy Thompson, Bob Thompson, Dominic Hanson, Josh Kern, James Reese, Mike Lofgren.

Burial will be in St. Isidore Catholic Cemetery in Moran Township, Minn.

Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena, a Schuller Family Funeral Home.
