Archie O. Serdahl

BAXTER — Archie Orlando Serdahl, 95, of Baxter, passed away on Sept. 3, 2012, at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.

Archie was born on Oct. 16, 1916, at the Columbus Hotel in Columbus, N.D., to Albert and Martha Serdahl.

He especially enjoyed music, playing banjo from the early age of 16. He was self-taught and played, “by ear,” many instruments including violin, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and even a musical saw. He entertained in the area for many years and was a winning contestant in several local fiddlers’ contests.

Some of Archie’s other interests were dancing, hunting, fishing, camping, antiques and collecting old treasures that were “worth a lot of money.” He was adored by his family; he had a great smile and laugh, and will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Crosby; daughter, Sandra Pike, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Marcia Kooiman, of Phoenix; and son, Jery Serdahl, of Medford, Ore.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Martha; wife, Judy; daughter, Sharon; grandson, Eric; brothers, Clifford, Milo, Louie; and sisters, Mavis and Alzada.

In lieu of flowers, donations will/may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, Minn., on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at 2 p.m.

A graveside musical memorial and celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria, Minn. Those who have entertained with Archie in the past, and anyone who loved hearing his music are welcome to join the family, graveside, and participate in the playing and singing of the music Archie so loved.
