Richard “Doc” Simonson, 63, of Staples, died at his home on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012.

Services for Richard will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, Minn., with Pastor Gene Plaistad officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples from 5-7 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church.

Richard was born on Feb. 25, 1949. in Long Prairie, Minn., to Leslie and Hazel (Blashack) Simonson. Richard moved from Williston, N.D., to the Staples area in 1985. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, Minn. Richard graduated from Browerville High School in 1967. Richard then attended Uof M-Morris and graduated from there in 1971. Richard then went on to graduate from the University of Minnesota Med School. He did his residency in Minot, N.D. Richard was a member of cruisers car club, and he enjoyed tennis, softball, and playing golf. He also loved to socialize and visit with people.

Richard is survived by his mother, Hazel Simonson, of Browerville, Minn.; children, Sarah (Ben) Ames, of Otsego, Minn., Chelsea (Zach) Snyder, of San Diego, Heidi (Dave) Zager, of London, England, and Brooke Simonson, of Fargo, N.D.; sister, Carol (Rick) Sadlemyer, of Long Prairie, Minn.; brother, Bill Simonson, of Browerville, Minn.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples.
