Robert L. Rengel
STAPLES — Robert L. Rengel, age 61, of Staples, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Lakewood Care Center after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis A service is planned for Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. There will be a visitation time one hour prior to the service.
Robert was born on June 15, 1951, in Staples to John and Rose (Heier) Rengel. He graduated from Staples High School in 1969, where he was a wrestler and also played football and baseball. After high school he attended Moorhead State College where he received a bachelor’s degree in special education. He taught in Browerville before coming to Staples, where he taught until his retirement in 1994. While in college, Bob was tri-captain of the Moorhead State Dragons wrestling team and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Owls. In 1972, he married Karen Marden, and they had two children. He enjoyed working out, witty repartee, gardening, practical jokes, collecting exotic pets, and canoeing the river.
Robert is survived by his children, Alicia, of Bemidji, and Philip (Miranda), of Burnsville; grandchildren, Aiden, Alexis, Dylan and Adrianna; brothers, Jack, Phil (Gail), Roger (Mary), David (Dinah), Jerry, and Joel (Pamela); the mother of his children, Karen Rengel; and many special friends. He was preceded in death by father, John; his mother, Rose; and a brother, Rick.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brenny Home in Staples.
