Donald McFarlin

Surrounded by family, Donald L. McFarlin, age 83, entered into his Lord’s glory on Wednesday evening Dec. 12 in Brainerd. Don was born on May 1, 1929 in Plainview, Minnesota to Glenn and Ida McFarlin, the third youngest of their eight children. Don married Elaine Lena Wehrs on June 30, 1950 in Plainview.

After working in sales for Gamble-Robinson Produce Co., he and Elaine purchased the Little Farm Market retail and wholesale produce business in 1957 and operated it until their retirement in 1992. Their store served as a social hub on the north side of Brainerd. For years Don served as financial secretary and elder at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching the Twins and Vikings and the company of family and friends. Don had a quick-witted humor and an easy going and extraordinarily gracious personality that made everyone’s day brighter.

Don’s family would like to thank the staff, past and present, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living for the past six years of love and outstanding care given him as he battled numerous health challenges.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Elaine; grandson Brackett; and brothers and sisters Jim, Marv, Roy, Mabel, Joy and Ione.

He is survived by a sister Ruth Mussell, of Plainview; his four children, Glenna Falk (Jerry Lyscio), Scott (Judy) McFarlin, Linda (Gary) Lane , and Terri (Bruce) Thompson; as well as six grandchildren, Jamie (Darryl) Stout, Patti and Donald C. McFarlin, Molly Lane, and Stafford and Eleanor Thompson; He is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, Katelynn, and Logan Stout as well as a long time very close friend, Bob Jordan.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd with prayers and sharing of memories at 5:30 as well as visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Don’s funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Steve Benson officiating. A lunch will follow the service and then interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
