W.T. ‘Bill’ Stoll
PIERZ — W.T. “Bill” Stoll, 88-year-old resident of Pierz, Minn., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at the Pierz Villa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, Minn., with Father Kenneth Popp officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery in Pierz at a later date. Military Honors will be conducted by the Pierz American Legion Post No. 341. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz. A Parish Prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral chapel.
William (‘Bill’) Stoll was born June 18, 1924 to Reinhard and Clara (Thommes) Stoll. He grew up in Pierz and graduated from Little Falls High School. While attending the University of Minnesota, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in December of 1943. Bill served as a surgical technician in Okinawa during WWII, and as an MP in South Korea during postwar reconstruction. Upon his return in 1945, he completed his degree. Bill and Delrose (‘Dellie’) Gruber were married on Sept. 6, 1947 and he began his employment at Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Pierz in 1948. Bill became the president and owner in 1965, and continued in that position until retiring in 1990. He served on the board of directors until 2008, completing 60 years of service with the bank. Active in the community, Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a charter member of the Pierz Commercial Club as well as the Pierz Lions Club. He served on the advisory board and governing board of St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls. Bill was past president of the Minnesota Bankers Association. He served on the Pierz Park Board and was instrumental in the development and success of the Pierz Golf Course. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and home landscaper. Bill was known for his humor, quick wit, and gift for storytelling. He was a faithful fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and University of Minnesota Gophers, and a skilled card player. Bill and Dellie loved traveling, and visited every continent, including Antarctica! All who knew Bill knew him as a man of integrity, generosity and kindness. He will be solely missed.
Bill is survived by his wife, Dellie, of Pierz, Minn.; sons, Tom (Lisa) Stoll of Zimmerman, Minn., and Robert (Loriese) Stoll of Lake Shore, Minn.; daughters, Mary Lee (Daniel) Brixius of Portland, Ore., and Carolyn (Monte) Morken of Nisswa, Minn.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, MaryLou Svensson and Kay Stoll; and by twin granddaughters. Pallbearers will be Micah Morken, Justin Morken, Sarah Stoll, Anne Kruchten, Abigail Kedrowski, Nathaniel Stoll, Adam Brixius and Kate Boslar.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Pierz Villa in Pierz.
