AITKIN — Robert N. Rom, age 81, of Aitkin, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin.

Bob was born March 10, 1931, at Aitkin, Minn., the son of Norman and Lillie (Jackman) Rom. He grew up and attended schools in the Aitkin area graduating from the Aitkin High School in 1949. He then attended the University of Minnesota for a year. He returned home and worked on the farm and started Rom Poultry Farm in 1950. He delivered eggs across north Minnesota. He married Irma D. Redlich on Aug. 6, 1955, at Nye, Wis. They made their home in Aitkin and he has lived here his whole life. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Aitkin where he had served as a deacon and also on the building committee. Was a charter member that helped revive the Cedar Lake Norwegian Lutheran Church in 1972.

He is survived by his wife, Irma Rom, of Aitkin; children and spouses, Dave (Erin) Rom, of Aitkin, Kevin (Darcy) Rom, of Aitkin, Mike (Teresa) Rom, of Little Fork, Minn., Rebecca (Paul) Zenke, of Aitkin; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Aitkin with the Rev. David Becker officiating. Burial will be in the Dorris Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
