Mary Beth Knutson

BEMIDJI — God took the love of my life to his eternal home and healed her of cancer on Feb. 16, 2013, at Sanford Health in Bemidji, Minn.

Mary Beth (Madaus) Knutson of Bemidji, Minn., formerly of Brainerd, Minn., was born on April 3, 1953, in Rice Lake, Wis., to Lloyd and Florence (Ames) Madaus.

She married Craig Charles Knutson on Aug. 16, 1990, on the shores of the Mississippi River in Monticello, Minn.

Mary spent her working life committed to taking care of those who could not take care of themselves, troubled youth and all young people. She believed every child deserved an opportunity and someone’s love. Mary was a mentor to many and a mom to even more. Mary believed wealth is not the amount of possessions you have but the lives you have lovingly touched throughout your life. All that were touched by Mary truly know the wealth of life.

She is so loved by her son, Richard (Vicki Daly) Carney, of Belfield, N.D.; stepchildren, Sarah Knutson, of Brainerd, Minn., Andrew Knutson, of Wadena, Minn.; mother-in-law, Gladys Knutson, of Brainerd, Minn.; sisters, Judy (Tom) Nordrum, of Eau Claire, Wis., and Elaine Schlewitz, of Wausau, Wis.; brothers, Steven (Lynn) Madaus, of Fargo, N.D., and Larry Madaus, of Rice Lake, Wis.; sister-in-law, Kim Homac, of Madeira Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and countless people that were touched by her smile and joy for life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Dickman; sister, Gloria; brother-in-law, Jim; aunt, Marie; uncles, Arnold and Oliver; and nephews, Jaysen, Chad and Forrest.

Memorial service will be at noon on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 5405 Hart Lane NW, Bemidji, Minn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be donated to the Coborn Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society.
