Administration's budget plan nixed 414-0
As the nation and most states struggle to climb out of the deepest recession since the Great Depression, the Obama administration produced a budget of $3.73 trillion. The President’s budget failed in a House vote 414-0.
Last week the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass a deficit-reducing budget as proposed by Wisconsin’s R-Paul Ryan 228-191, according to Reuters.
Democrats vowed to kill the plan in the U.S. Senate, in which they hold a majority.
Republicans are portraying the Ryan budget as bold and a step toward shrinking deficits that have ballooned to trillion dollar levels each year of President Obama’s first term.
Democrats, who unanimously opposed the Ryan budget proposal, said his plan is an “assault on the cherished Medicare healthcare system for the elderly.”
Whether Ryan’s plan succeeds or flops in the Senate, one thing is certain — there will be no budget passed before the 2012 presidential election in November.
Many Americans have either lost their job, have been forced to take a reduction in wages, or they’ve had their home foreclosed on during the huge downturn in housing that began in 2008. All of that and yet our elected leaders have played politics while the citizens of this nation have been forced to put up with political posturing and shenanigans.
That is a tragedy!
