Restorative program empowers victims
November 18-24 is National Restorative Justice Week. I am fortunate to be a part of Lakes Area Restorative Justice Project (LARJP) that has been working in Crow Wing County since 2005. LARJP is a nonprofit volunteer- driven, community-supported program. Its mission is to restore the community by involving juveniles who have caused harm, the persons who have been harmed and local citizens in a process which promotes healing to all.
LARJP gives youth a chance to be accountable for wrong-doing and empowers victims with a voice, thereby restoring safety and harmony to the community.
Kay Pranis, Minnesota Department of Corrections, identifies restorative justice as “a vision of a society which honors the dignity of human beings and centrality of relationships.” To learn about LARJP in service to Crow Wing County, visit www.LARJP.org or 218-568-4145.
