The Rochester Community College wrestling team rolled over the Brainerd Community College Raiders by a score of 49-3. Brainerd’s only win was Mike Carlson’s 7-3 victory at 142 pounds.

30 years ago (1982)

When a business gets into financial trouble, it usually does two things: lays off employees and heads to the bank to borrow money. The Brainerd School Board has started just that process. They reviewed plans to lay off 62 teachers and borrow $1.4 million.

40 years ago (1972)

Two young men who planned to break into the Town Tavern in Crosby, found they had to break out. Armed with a hacksaw they found they door open. Minutes later the owner locked the door and they were trapped. When they broke out, police spotted and captured them.

60 years ago (1952)

(Photo) Don Raymond, chair of the Civic Association membership drive, presents George Sweet with his new 1953 membership decal. Sweet led last year’s drive which produced record membership, and Raymond aims to break that record this year.

100 years ago (1912)

George B. Wright, under the name of Northwest Growers’ Association, had advertised in the Dispatch to sell apples, which he did not deliver. He was arrested in Chicago and held on $3,000 bond for mail fraud. The Dispatch had asked postal authorities to investigate.
