When the first AP girls’ basketball poll of the season was released last year, the Warriors were ranked 4th, and promptly lost to St. Cloud Tech 45-43. This year they are ranked 2nd, but they mashed the Moorhead Spuds by a count of 82-54, breaking the jinx.

“We’ve got more team balance than we’ve ever had,” said Staples wrestling coach Don Dravis. His team had four champions as they scored 197.5 points to win their 9th Paul Bunyan mat tournament. Brainerd also had four champs, but placed sixth.

A controversy over a hole left in the street at S. 7th and Willow Streets arose at last night’s council meeting. It also sparked additional comments over why a permit was issued to a contractor several weeks after the hole was filled.

Bishop Hamilton Kellogg, Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota, will make an official visit to St. Paul’s Church to bless the new west window, a gift of Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Gould. The stained glass window completes the stained glass window program at St. Paul’s.

Needy families of Brainerd were assured of a rabbit feed following the annual American Legion rabbit shoot on Sunday. The Imgrund-Peterson team was declared victorious with 135 rabbits, while the Turcotte-Levis huntsmen bagged 103.

A deaf mute couple on their honeymoon trip passed through Brainerd today. It was rather difficult to hold hands and talk the sign language at the same time, but their eyes did double duty. The language of love knows no obstacles or impediments.
