Muggs Sjodin is going to have a new experience Friday. On that day, she and her family will go to Harold’s Club and be served a free dinner by the waitresses. For the past 22 years she has waited on patrons there but is now retiring after 38 years in the food business.

The temperatures could have been better, but enthusiasm and attendance were high at the 5th Annual Merrifield Marathons Snowmobile Derby. On Sunday, 3,400 fans saw Ron Blomlie take three titles and Terry Holm take two to lead the successful racers.

Brainerd will ask for protection at every rail crossing in the city, according to a special committee composed of the council street committee, the city attorney and city engineer. The city attorney will write Northern Pacific officials asking for a meeting next week.

A Cass County grand jury will consider charges against a 44-year-old Pine River area woman who shot an area farmer four times, killing him. The charge could be manslaughter or murder. She says she will plead self defense, saying he attacked her with a club.

The 9th annual graduation exercises of the training school for nurses of the Northern Pacific Railway hospital will be held at the Elks Hall on Friday. Dr. John Thabes will deliver the address of the evening. Their will be five ladies graduating.
