In a measure designed to improve affordability, quality and access to health care in the lakes area, Brainerd Medical Center and Lake Region Clinic announced their intent to consolidate. The two clinics will consolidate in the BMC facility and use that name.

(Photo) Warrior gymnastics awards went to Jennifer Knippel, most improved; Traci Kaminski, 1983-84 captain; and Jane Matthies, most valuable. Coach Dave Maras’ team won their 2nd consecutive Region 8AA title and finished 6th at the state tournament.

Both title winners in the YMCA City Basketball League, 2nd half champion American Legion and 1st half champ Brainerd Heating, went down to defeat in the opening of the double-elimination tourney. The Legion lost to Cole’s and Brainerd Heating to Quam’s.

Crow Wing County has an enviable position among northern counties, despite having a higher rate of tax delinquency than the state average. Crow Wing shows 24 percent of taxpayers delinquent, with Wadena at 25 percent, Aitkin and Cass both at 60 percent.

The entire city council was present to hear the presentation of M.D. Stoner, president of the Cuyuna Range Power Co. He proposed to buy the local power plant as backup to his water power plant. He will sell electricity at 2.75 cents per hour for first 1 million hours.
