(Adv.) Now Showing! At the Paramount Theatre see “The Black Stallion Returns.” At the Brainerd Twin #1 it’s “High Road to China,” starring Tom Selleck, held over for a 3rd week. Also showing, at the Brainerd Twin #2, see “Spring Break.”

(Photo) Instructor Cathy Engler and assistant Susan Meyer are shown teaching three trainable retarded youngsters in Building 4 at the Brainerd State Hospital. The program is run by Dennis Martin, director of the public school program at the state hospital.

60 years ago (1953)

Vince Kampmann, firing 100’s from both the prone and sitting positions, and a 99 kneeling, paced Brainerd Rifle Club shooters with a 388 at the Brainerd Armory. Louie Favrou and Tom Hall followed with 382 and 381, and John Hall had a 377.

80 years ago (1933)

Thirsts, parched for the taste of beer since prohibition was enacted, looked to next Saturday when beer will again become legalized in Brainerd through federal, state and city regulations. Dealers were applying for licenses to sell the 3.2 percent beer locally.

100 years ago (1913)
