District 181 Viewpoint: Celebrating excellence in the 4 A's

The countdown to graduation has begun, which means we are now deep into banquet season.

In the last two weeks, Brainerd Public Schools has had the privilege of hosting the prestigious annual Fine Arts and Activities and Athletics banquets to celebrate the accomplishments of our high school students. Standing with proud teachers and family members to recognize the success our well-rounded students have in all 4 A's—Academics, Arts, Activities and Athletics—is always such a joy!

The festivities this spring have felt especially sweet coming just weeks after our community approved the proposal to enhance our spaces for academic, arts, activities and athletics. I am thrilled at the new and improved opportunities to innovate and find success our students will be afforded in our upgraded buildings.

Local organizations focused on health and safety, workforce development and the arts, as well as many district staff members, had a vision to build world-class facilities for our students and community and then poured their hearts into sharing that vision for enhancing academic achievement and opportunities throughout our region.

As we shared the Blueprint 181 proposal around the community this past winter and spring, we often talked about how strong schools contribute to a strong community. On April 10, voters expressed that they agreed that the schools are essential to the vitality of our community and committed resources to developing facilities that promote opportunity, innovation and success for all learners.

I hope each of the students who attended the banquets view the election results as a vote of confidence from their community: they have made a significant investment in every student's ability to learn, play, create, contribute and add value to this community. We, at Brainerd Public Schools, are most appreciative.

Thank you to the community for its support and congratulations on all your achievements to the students and families! My best wishes to all graduates on your outstanding accomplishments.
