Open Forum: Last day for letters

This is the last day that the Dispatch will run letters to the editor about next Tuesday’s Pequot Lakes School District referendum. So please, please remember to vote next Tuesday.  Polling places are the Pequot Lakes School Building and Crosslake City Hall, and they are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. If you’re on the fence about how to vote, go to the district’s website at pequotlakes.k12.mn.us.  There’s a ton of valuable information about the district’s needs, how your tax dollars will be spent, and other important facts.

In terms of financing and construction costs, this is a nearly ideal time to repair the middle-level and high schools, and to add much-needed classrooms.  Sure, the levy will add a bit to our taxes, but the alternatives will too.  And we won’t get nearly as much for our tax increase if the referendum fails.  

Pequot Lakes School District isn’t proposing extravagant buildings or frivolous improvements.  The school board has cut costs where it can, and understands that it cannot continue to simply cobble together classrooms and infrastructure to meet the increased demands of rising enrollment. We must act now. We must act boldly. Please vote “yes” next Tuesday!
