Open Forum: ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’

I urge legislators to oppose requiring photo IDs for registered voters at the polling place. My mother-in-law is 96. She follows politics avidly and cares deeply about her country. She doesn’t drive, and she doesn’t have a photo ID.  She shouldn’t be deprived of her voting rights just because she doesn’t have a driver’s license. I’m sure there are many other people with similar situations.  Please don’t deprive them of their constitutional right to vote.

As Minnesotans, we’ve always been proud of our turnout for elections as well as the high degree of integrity of our election process. Let’s not spend time and money on this non-issue. As Thomas Bertram Lance, director of the Office of Management and Budget in 1977, advised in Nation’s Business, “If it ain't broke, don’t fix it.”
