Open Forum: LeMieur is a tireless advocate

LeMieur is an effective advocate

Throughout my time at the Legislature I have never served with a more effective advocate for his constituents than Rep. Mike LeMieur.

Always working on behalf of the folks back home, Rep. LeMieur was instrumental in shaping the final tax bill signed into law by Governor Dayton.  His hard work and persistent communication with negotiators paid off as Local Government Aid and County Program Aid received no reductions from last year.

Rep. LeMieur also pushed several changes which will provide stability in budgeting for local governments and property tax relief for homeowners.  He also sought, and was effective in getting passed into law, a provision making it easier for family farms to remain in the family for generations to come.

Rep. LeMieur deserves to be commended for the work he did on behalf of his constituents. The people of his district are extremely fortunate to have such a tireless, effective legislator working for them in St. Paul.

Putting it in prospective

Nobody seems to be able to fathom the billions and trillions the federal  government talks about.

Let put it into something we can all understand — our family budget.

What I’ve done is eliminate 8-zeros from the federal budget numbers. For example our “Jones” family income is $21,700. The federal budget income is $2,170,000,000,000.

Jones family Income  — $21,700.

Amount spent  —  $38,200.

Amount new debt added to credit card — $16,500,

Outstanding balance on credit card  — $142,710.

Amount cut from budget — $ 917.

Cutting $917 from their budget, while owing $142,710 on their credit card is a crash-course for bankruptcy for the Jones family.

Gee, maybe Obama and the liberals should be able to see this too. Owing $14 trillion and “cutting” $900 billion just won’t make it.

It’s time to get Obama, the liberals, and a bunch of Republicans, too, out of Washington.

The Regular Crowd was a hit

Just a note to let the fair board know how much I enjoyed the Crow Wing  County Fair this year. In particular I want to compliment the board for  selecting the rock and roll band The Regular Crowd to play Friday night.

These young men played beyond their years and brought a smile to my face with their last song. Well done!

I then transfered up to Bemidji State University in, you guessed it, Bemidji, MN. In the spring of 2009, I graduated from BSU. Then in the fall of 2009 I got a job at Echo Publishing, a sister company to the Brainerd Dispatch.
