Open Forum: Help the Mounted Eagles
We have a wonderful organization in our area called the Mounted Eagles Inc., a Therapeutic Horsemanship Program. It is an organization which helps people with special needs of all ages to ride and work with horses. It helps with developing their muscles, helps with their balance, their learning of social skills and how to listen and follow instructions. These are only a few of the benefits of riding. It is so rewarding to see the wonderful changes that occur after a new rider has ridden awhile. We have around 60 riders.
The Mounted Eagles owns eight horses and boards them at Spirit Horse Center, a few miles south of Baxter on Highway 371. Most of the persons working with the organization are volunteers. Last year hundreds of hours were donated to the program by our 50-plus dedicated volunteers. There are four instructors, trained by the international organization PATH, formerly NARHA. Each instructor must keep up to date on training and safety methods and new instructors have to pass strict guidelines before becoming certified.
Most of our operating funds come from donations and fund raisers as the riding fees do not cover all the costs of the program. If any organization or individuals can help us financially, it would be so appreciated by all. Or if you could donate hay or help sponsor one of our horses that would help also.
For more information on how you can help, call (888) 828-9920 or (218) 454-3228. The Mounted Eagles website is mountedeagles.org. Our address is US Mail at P.O. Box 566, Nisswa, MN 56468.
Please keep these wonderful riders in your minds and hearts and help our organization continue in our mission. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
