Proud of special ed teachers

I was watching the Anderson Cooper show the other day and heard a father stating that his special education daughter kept complaining about being bullied. For three years the parents went to school only to be told that their daughter was lying by the administration and her teachers. They then put a recorder on their daughter and found out that what she had been saying correct. And who was doing the bullying? It was her teacher and teacher aid. As a retired educator I found this to be very disturbing.

I have taught in four different school districts in the Brainerd area and have visited all of the Brainerd elementary schools.

What I have observed in 32-plus years of teaching is that we, in the Brainerd area, can be proud of the education systems and the educators.

I have witnessed teachers giving up their lunch time to be with students to give them the extra help they request and need. One teacher I taught with would come into school on Sundays to prepare a science lab. Many times teachers would come in early or leave late to meet the needs of the students. They would put the students first.

My years in education were spent in special education. I can only say how proud I was to work with such caring and professional educators.
